Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band To Replace John Mayer– Takes Closing Slot At the New Orleans’ Jazz Fest April 29, 2012

AKA: Mia is VERY, very OPINIONATED!

I had, upon seeing that this subject had appeared to have gone away quietly, decided not to post this. BUT! (See below)

Yes, so. Well. This should hardly be worth mentioning, but since it is being mentioned it “deserves” Wink my mention.

(This new theme is not very nice to my smileys!! I’ll work on that.)

Here it is:

1.)  Somebody at ‘THE DAILY’ is an IDIOT.  (See their quote below.)

JAZZ FEST SHOWS MAYER WHO’S BOSS
John Mayer’s loss is Bruce Springsteen’s gain. Mayer was just bumped from the coveted closing slot at the New Orleans Jazz Fest on April 29 and replaced with The Boss. And sources say Mayer isn’t happy about it. The “Your Body is a Wonderland” hitmaker used to overshare on Twitter, but he maintained his silence about the snub yesterday. Also playing are Tom Petty, Eddie Vedder, the Foo Fighters and the Eagles. But Bruce will close the fest. “Anything else would be a disaster,” said one source. In 1974, Anne Murray was “Broooced!” off the stage in Central Park when she followed Springsteen.

The writer of this blurb obviously wanted to take a shot at John, but I think if you read it minus ‘I LOVE JOHN MAYER SO MUCH’ emotion it is more of an insult to Bruce.

Not only did the writer point out that Springsteen’s received second billing in the past, but the writer makes it sound like having Bruce follow John was something to be CONSIDERED.

2.)  Somebody at the NEW ORLEANSJAZZ FEST knows how things are done and promptly adjusted the schedule when Bruce was added to the lineup.

Let us all rejoice that John was bumped by someone who deserves it.

JOHN will TOTALLY have his turn.

JOHN is the GREATEST GUITAR PLAYER to EVER LIVE.

He is LEGEND.

He is also still so very young (as far as being legendary goes).

It’s about respect.

And, well,  Bruce Springsteen

 …he’s THE BOSS.

It’s like, for example, in the movie ‘LIMITLESS

(which I liked, by the way) Robert De Niro got the AND’ when they posted the acting credits.

Nobody in their right mind’s going to bill Robert De Niro directly under Bradly Cooper,

even though Cooper was CLEARLY both the draw and the star of the show.

It is the sole purpose the ‘AND’ credit in movies was invented!

(oh, and to avoid cat/dog fights between cocky young celebrities regarding whose name should go on top).

Respect for legend.

Respect for talent.

DISCLAIMER: The above comparison of concert billing  to the movie crediting process was written based on my non-existent knowledge of how either industry really works so take every word I just wrote with a couple grains of salt, ‘kay?

 NOW.  That said.

Do NOT get me STARTED on how ROYALLY PEEVED it made me when I found out that Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band To Replace John Mayer Takes Closing Slot At the New Orleans Jazz Fest April 29, 2012Keith Urban was going on after John at Tiger Jam.

It still makes my blood pressure rise…

…and I like Keith just fine.

 PS: JOHN MAYER RULES ALL!

UPDATE: NOW I MUST SPEAK.

Below is an excerpt from a nola.com article:

A delicate bit of music industry diplomacy ensued. Mayer’s booking agent, Scott Clayton, also represents two other acts on the 2012 Jazz Fest schedule, My Morning Jacket and Rodrigo y Gabriela. Davis reassured Clayton that even if Mayer performed earlier in the day, he could still play his full show. Perhaps more importantly, he would not be moved to another stage and forced into the unenviable position of playing opposite Springsteen.

Instead, Mayer would appear on Acura between Dr. John and the E Street Band, presumably playing to a much larger crowd than he would have as headliner.

Mayer agreed to the new arrangement.

Delicate? Agreed? Pfffft. John Mayer does not have even half of an ounce of the ego that would make a situation like this one the slightest bit touchy.

BUT. They (nolan.com) are, I concede, at least nicer in their treatment of John. If I worked in *cough* “THE BIZ,’ do you know what I would have said about this repositioning?

That is was occurring.

I would have let the fact that its occurrence was not a reflection upon John’s and/or Bruce’s talent and/or fame be what it already is and was: OBVIOUS!

lol!!!!!  *She says with PASSION*

    1. It is sad that people seem to think that this is something worth mentioning. OF COURSE John agrees that people like Springsteen should come on after him… he’s in love with music and that means despite all of his own success, he still recognizes legends and respects them…THANK GOD!! I would not feel the same way about him if he didn’t. It’s one of the things I love about him. It’s unbelievable how people can actually make this look as if it’s a bad thing.

As for Keith Urban at Tiger Jam… I honestly think that they’re such good friends that it didn’t matter to them who went on first. If I’m not mistaken Keith did go on before John at another occasion ( I want to say the Gorge but don’t quote me on that…)

    2. I thought of Petty, too, as I was writing the post. (I had been hoping he and John would perform a song together.)
In my book, they are ALL already legends, but only one person can go last.

    3. As a guy who preferes music from Springsteen’s generation, that was a bad call…

The real veteran/legend of them all is Petty

Even funnier is the fact that there is nothing Jazzy about any of them

Oh well, big ups to John for remaining humble
