*UPDATE: Sorry it took me so long to think of it, BUT. Though they come in quite a few dif­fer­ent vari­eties below are two exam­ples of what a gui­tar might look like (and YES, they are gen­er­ally held on one’s lap). :-)

    I was won­der­ing if he knew how to play a lap steel! Sounds very coun­try… must be his buddy Keith’s influence ;-)

    Of course! the Lap Steel. What’s a lap steel?

    It’s kinda like a (steel) gui­tar, but you put it in your lap and play it with a slider. It’s used in alot of coun­try songs (prob­a­bly other music styles as well, but that’s the one that comes to mind for me).

    Did I for­get to men­tion, that besides the shape and form of the instru­ment I also loved the piece John played. It made me smile.
