*UPDATE: Sorry it took me so long to think of it, BUT. Though they come in quite a few different varieties below are two examples of what a lap steel guitar might look like (and YES, they are generally held on one’s lap). :-)

It’s kinda like a (steel) guitar, but you put it in your lap and play it with a slider. It’s used in alot of country songs (probably other music styles as well, but that’s the one that comes to mind for me).

Thanks for posting the picture. I’ve never seen a lap steel. I wonder, can you still use a pick? I love the size and shape of both. Play on!! :-))

Did I forget to mention, that besides the shape and form of the instrument I also loved the piece John played. It made me smile.
