10 Years Ago… Scotty Crowes Blog:

Room For Squares was offi­cially released on Colum­bia Records 10 years ago today. The 5 months pre­vi­ous changed the course of my life, from math-nerd-as-a-profession to math-nerd-as-a-novelty.

That week feels like it just hap­pened — much in part to the fact that it was right after 9/11, so the mem­o­ries of where-when-what are prob­a­bly vivid for us all.

Our tour itin­er­ary was of course adjusted — when we did head back out to sup­port the record, I had a bad case of ton­sil­li­tis and went home to recover, so tour man­age­ment was han­dled by a com­mit­tee con­sist­ing of Matt Mangano and my mom. I wrote the below from SEGA and would join the guys a few days later in Boston.

Hard to believe it’s been 10 years since that 15-passenger van, Hamp­ton Inns, and Moon Pies. Incred­i­ble memories.

Road Jour­nal — more like Home Jour­nal. More like Ladies’ Home Journal.

This is Scotty — remem­ber me? — writ­ing you from the home I grew up in: that’s right, straight from Da ‘Wick. I’ll be join­ing the guys again in a few days — absence makes the heart grow fonder, you know. And you’re in for a treat: I think Johnny’s gonna take the helm for me and make you all fall out of your chairs and onto the ground, laugh­ing, until I return this weekend.

But today is 91801 — the big rere­lease day. I thought it was def­i­nitely a rea­son to break the silence of the Road Jour­nal sec­tion of the web­site. Just so you know, I heard Birm­ing­ham went off — Uncle Matt and Carl­ton have joined John and dela on stage, so this band is gonna rock you where ever you may be. And my cheese-eating friends say the Atlanta instore was packed and as much fun as a McDonald’s Play­Place. Right now, the guys are some­where between South Car­olina and New York. Watch out for the Thunderstrike.

Seems like every­one had a rest­ful break. I think every­one went home — Louisiana, Cal­i­for­nia, Con­necti­cut, Geor­gia, SEGA — and spent some good times with the fam and da crew.

And I have some tricks up my sleeve for you. Oh, do I! Stuff like superla­tives and new daily high­lights and all the details in Seabass’s mis­chief over the break (it involves a Saab, a “severe tire dam­age sign”, and about 4 quarts of trans­mis­sion fluid!).

But we’re headin’ west again — it’s gonna be a blast. All the way to Seat­tle! 5 shows in Cal­i­for­nia! And with 2 more guys on stage, who knows what’s gonna hap­pen night to night. These next 6 weeks are gonna be a trip, and we hope to see you out there.

One last thing — Matt’s workin’ hard out there. If you see him, espe­cially if you’ve ever been on the cover of a mag­a­zine, give him a kiss for me. Thanks. I’mna get some sleep to an infomercial.
