10 Years Ago… Scotty Crowes Blog:
Room For Squares was officially released on Columbia Records 10 years ago today. The 5 months previous changed the course of my life, from math-nerd-as-a-profession to math-nerd-as-a-novelty.That week feels like it just happened — much in part to the fact that it was right after 9/11, so the memories of where-when-what are probably vivid for us all.
Our tour itinerary was of course adjusted — when we did head back out to support the record, I had a bad case of tonsillitis and went home to recover, so tour management was handled by a committee consisting of Matt Mangano and my mom. I wrote the below from SEGA and would join the guys a few days later in Boston.
Hard to believe it’s been 10 years since that 15-passenger van, Hampton Inns, and Moon Pies. Incredible memories.

Road Journal — more like Home Journal. More like Ladies’ Home Journal.
This is Scotty — remember me? — writing you from the home I grew up in: that’s right, straight from Da ‘Wick. I’ll be joining the guys again in a few days — absence makes the heart grow fonder, you know. And you’re in for a treat: I think Johnny’s gonna take the helm for me and make you all fall out of your chairs and onto the ground, laughing, until I return this weekend.
But today is 91801 — the big rerelease day. I thought it was definitely a reason to break the silence of the Road Journal section of the website. Just so you know, I heard Birmingham went off — Uncle Matt and Carlton have joined John and dela on stage, so this band is gonna rock you where ever you may be. And my cheese-eating friends say the Atlanta instore was packed and as much fun as a McDonald’s PlayPlace. Right now, the guys are somewhere between South Carolina and New York. Watch out for the Thunderstrike.
Seems like everyone had a restful break. I think everyone went home — Louisiana, California, Connecticut, Georgia, SEGA — and spent some good times with the fam and da crew.
And I have some tricks up my sleeve for you. Oh, do I! Stuff like superlatives and new daily highlights and all the details in Seabass’s mischief over the break (it involves a Saab, a “severe tire damage sign”, and about 4 quarts of transmission fluid!).
But we’re headin’ west again — it’s gonna be a blast. All the way to Seattle! 5 shows in California! And with 2 more guys on stage, who knows what’s gonna happen night to night. These next 6 weeks are gonna be a trip, and we hope to see you out there.
One last thing — Matt’s workin’ hard out there. If you see him, especially if you’ve ever been on the cover of a magazine, give him a kiss for me. Thanks. I’mna get some sleep to an infomercial.
A speeding bullet?
It’s Superman’s Volkswagen!
No, its just Seabass
This next young lady, she must’ve been eatin’ Church’s Chicken, cause she kinda thick.
