John Mayer – Something’s *pause for effect* Missing?

Opinions by Mia

John Mayer Somethings *pause for effect* Missing? ImageThis past May, John Mayer announced that his next album “Born and Raised” is set to be released in October and THOUGH he did not specifically say October 2011, I’m pretty darn sure that’s what he meant.

Queue *excitement, excitement, excitement, excitement*!!

Recently, I’ve started to miss something. And by something. I mean. Well, John. That has been a Mia constant since FOREVER.

But what I’m talking about right now is HYPE.

John has taken a sabbatical from both social media and the media in general. And as much as I hate, hate, hate, quadruple super hate his absence, I get it. Or got it.

Now. I am not even close to being someone close to being someone close to being an expert on the subject of album promotion, but it seems like, well, we should be hearing MORE about ‘Born and Raised’ from somebody, somewhere, somehow by now.

Am I wrong? I don’t know. Maybe.

John Mayer Somethings *pause for effect* Missing? ImageI did a meagerly five seconds of research into the subject by comparing the hype surrounding ‘Born and Raised’ to that of ‘Battle Studies’ and found that most definitely the hype surrounding ‘Battle Studies’ was greater.

John announced the November 17, 2009 release date of ‘Battle Studies’ on the 24th of August. At which time, he also declared ‘Who Says’ would be the first single.

On September 14, John sent a tweet from the set where he was shooting the video for the upcoming single. And on the 28th, ‘Who Say’s’ debuted on ‘The Scott and Todd’ show.

THEN on October 1, 2009, John sent, by tweet, the full ‘Battle Studies’ track list.

This was followed on October 6 by discussion of the augmented reality video for ‘Heartbreak Warfare.’

There are more examples,

But.

You probably get it.

 What I’m saying is…

I want more JOHN.

The end.

  1. 34 is a special birthday for John. Half his life ago he was in a hospital being diagnosed with a heart condition that almost ‘broke his heart’. I expect this album to be retrospective, complex and extremely personal. It’ll be amazing. I’m pre-ordering it asap and I rarely ever purchase music. No downloads or anything.

    • It’s so worth it. I agree, I’ve heard him sing Born & Raised live on youtube and it sounds extremely personal & reflects his life. :-) He’s music is the only music I purchase also

  2. I’m thinking it will come out October 16th. That’s because it’s his 34th birthday and three days after my 23rd birthday. I’m so happy. Thats the best birthday present I could ever get. :-))

    • From what I’ve heard of it so far it’s going to be extra-double-triple worth the wait… intricate and emotionally poignant. :inlove:

That’s why I want everybody from here to Venus talking about how awesome it’s going to be!!

The style of the album seems to be more subtle and deep (which I love) so it makes sense that his approach to its arrival might be too.

      • Wow that sounds great. I’m s excited. Hope it comes out the same time in Australia.

& Anything JM does sounds amazing. I hope he puts Age of Worry in there. Can’t wait!! :-)

  3. I have been starting to think the same thing! I think we would have seen more from him by now. He definitely has a new approach to this album. One thing I do know is it will be worth the wait! Thanks again for the great blog! Jaye :-)) PS.. Maybe we my get a surprise on his b-day?

  4. I know why he released Battle Studies on Nov. 17. :)
It’s appropriate that this one drop on Oct. 16th. I hope he recorded this one for himself.

  5. I do hope we hear more about Born and Raised soon and I’d love a single! I think John’s taking a different approach to promoting this album on purpose. I can’t wait!
